The teeth of the Crabeater Seal(Lobodon carcinophagus). Crabeaters are misnamed, since they actually eat krill, not crabs, occasionally supplementing their diet with small fish and squid. Crabeater seals have distinctive and complex teeth. Each tooth is outfit with bony protuberances, with spaces between them. The upper and lower jaws fit together so that when mouth is closed, the teeth and protuberances can strain krill. They feed by swimming through schools of krill with their mouth open, sieving the water out using their sophisticated teeth.
